The Institute was established in 1990, as a part of Bhavan's pioneering effort to promote non-formal education in modern professional subjects in general and particularly part-time courses in journalism, advertising and printing etc.
The course is of one year duration and is a post graduate diploma course. This course is a part of communication studies and a Diploma is awarded by the Bhavan in Journalism. The course is recognised by the Central and State Government. The course has been designed as a post graduate course, open to graduates from any recognised universities and institution recognised by the University Grant Commission.
The Medium of instruction shall be Marathi. The practical classes in respect of subjects such as editing, reporting, writing etc. shall be conducted by well known journalists in the particular language for the benefit of candidates.
The academic year is divided into two term's viz. July to October and November to March. Actual dates of commencement and conclusion of each term of the Academic year may vary slightly, subject to local conditions and requirements. The minimum number of working days during the academic year will be 170. Lecture sessions are normally held for five days in a week- Monday to Friday in the evening, between 6.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m.
The results of the past years are very encouraging. Eminent faculties who are having working experience in the field are invited for imparting training to the students. The students strength of the college is increasing year by year and students passing out from this institution are invited to work in various well known Marathi Journals. Some of the students have been working as Public Relation officers in Television and other Govt. and non-government organisations viz. All India Radio, Local Cable Networks and Private Companies in the city.
The institution imparts training in writing, editing, reporting, newspaper management, mass communication and DTP Training on computer.
The Diploma in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management ( M-3)
If Dealing with people is your forte and solving problems excites you, then this course is meant for you. We shall equip you with the working knowledge of Personnel Management, Human Resource Development, Industrial Relations, Labour Legislation, besides Welfare and Social Security Legislation.
Duration
All the three Courses are of one year duration and are Post Graduate diploma Courses(PGDC)
Eligibility
The Course have been designed as a post-graduate courses.They are open to garduates aof any faculty from any recognized Universities ,Institutions recognized by the University Grant Commission .As the medium of insruction is English ,proficiency in written and spoken English is expected .
Attendance
A minimum of 65 percent attendance at letures is compulsory in each term.
Sessions
Lecture sessions are normally held for five days in a week,Monday to Friday in the evening,between 6.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. The teaching faculty shall give requisite guidance to the candidates in the matter of selection of subjects for study paper ,project work etc. The faculty may conduct special coaching classes as and when necessary.

The Diploma in Journalism (C-1) consists of seven subjects-Introducation to Journalism, press Laws, Reporting , Writing,Editing,Newspaper Management, Mass Communication and Cultural
Heritage of India. Also internal assessment and practical training is compulsory The total examaination is of 750 marksM
The Diploma in Public Relations(C-2) Consists of five subjects namely Principles of Public Relations and Communications,Tools and Media of Public Relations ,Corporate Public Relations ,Editing and Producation of Publication and advertsing Theroy and Practice.
The Diploma in mass Communication(C-3) consists of five subjects namely Communication ,Print Media Electronic Media Advertising and Corporate Communication
For Both the courses internal Assessment of 100 marks is compulsory which includes term tests, study paper, viva-voce and research/ project work. In addition one paper of 100 marks on Cultural Heritage of India is compulsory. The total marks for the course would be 700.
