Exploratory is a place where children can explore and discover, innovate and invent, design and fabricate. Exploratory launches students on a path of exploration and on an adventure of discovery. In exploratory, children "learn how to learn".
WHY EXPLORATORY?
Over the last two centuries, science has come to occupy centre stage in the thinking and living of man. Science has been increasingly shaping out view of the universe, moulding our sojourn on this planet and pattering our ultimate destiny. India must participate fully in this inexorable march of science commensurate with our ancient tradition of original thinking and scholarship, our rich human resource and rich biodiversity.
Science education plays a vital role in the alchemy of scientific research and technological development. However, today, science education in our schools and colleges is ridden with decadence and apathy.
Science is an endless quest and ceaseless exploration. However, experimentation and demonstration have totally disappeared from our schools and colleges. Children emerge out of our schools and colleges without curiosity, devoid of creativity and innovativeness, unexcited, lacking self-confidence and frightful of their future.
India is brimming with young boys and girls full of vitality and enthusiasm. They are our most precious national resource. It is their inherent right to have a system of science education, which will enable them to flower to the limits of their capabilities. Exploratory seeks to provide them with such a system.
WHAT IS EXPLORATORY?
Exploratory was conceived and established by Prof. V. G. Bhide, former vice-chancellor of University or Pune. Exploratory is neither a school laboratory nor a museum. It is a place where children can explore and discover. Exploratory has been designed to excite curiosity, communicate a sense of excitement in doing science, impart computational and communication skills, nourish and nurture creativity and innovativeness. It is a place where children discover for themselves, without being formally taught the basic laws and the concepts underlying them and learn how these concepts underlie various technological innovations.
In Exploratory, children are initiated into the method of science and learn how great men of science questioned Nature to reveal her secrets.
EXPLORATORY IN ACTION
Exploratory provides facilities to children to explore physical and chemical phenomena, biological processes, and to play with numbers, study geometrical patterns and to design and fabricate electronic gadgets.

NURTURING AND NOURISHING TALENT
Exploratory conducts talent search in schools in Pune. Out of thousands of children who appear at this talent search test, 40 students in English and Marathi media are selected for exciting summer programs designed to nourish and nurture talent.
TEACHERS' ORIENTATION
Exploratory believes that teachers play a pivotal role in the educational system. Exploratory orients teachers from schools in Pune in the Exploratory way of learning.
PUBLICATIONS
In order to propagate the culture of experimentation and to make available to children information on latest developments in science, Exploratory has mounted an ambitious publication programme.
MULTIMEDIA PACKAGES
In the present system of Education, all children irrespective of their socioeconomic and cultural background are subjected to learning at the same pace and that too during fixed hours. With the development of information technology, it has become possible to design self learning and self evaluating packages with whose help children can learn for themselves at any time convenient to them. Exploratory seeks to take the best teacher to the door steps of a child through multimedia packages .
IMPACT OF EXPLORATORY
Response of children, tachers, parents, and that of the scientific community has been both spontaneous and overwhelming. The performance of students who have experienced the Exploratory way of learning has been outstanding both in public examinations such as S.S.C. and in a variety of Talent Search Examinations. Two of the student who had experienced Exploratory way of learning represented India at the International Mathematics Olympiad and won silver and bronze medals. Two of our students won an International award.
300 students drawn from several schools in Pune experience Exploratory way of learning science regularly. Nearly 2000 students visit the Exploratory every year.
HOW CAN YOU ASSOCIATE WITH EXPLORATORY
Exploratory family believes that a symbiotic relationship between educational system and the society must be evolved in which the society must support, patronise and help the educational system and in turn the educational system must provide leadership to the society in every walk of human endeavour. Consistent with this philosophy, Exploratory has not sought any government assistance so far but expects support and patronage from the society. It is our firm belief that industrialists, charitable institutions and enlightened citizens will support this unique institution through sumptuous donations, and proudly participate in this movement called Exploratory.
